I got pregnant in October 2008. I was single and didn't know what to do.  I was looking through the Yellow Pages for an abortion when I noticed Aid for Women offered to help pregnant women.  I called for an appointment.

I was two months pregnant.  My boyfriend, now my ex-boyfriend, was not supportive of my pregnancy.  He asked me to move out of his apartment.  No longer employed, homeless and pregnant, I felt that abortion was my only option.

When I arrived, I read the Aid for Women pamphlet.  It says they “will give you practical help, complete information and a plan of action." Housing was my biggest worry at the time. They referred me to the Missionaries of Charity Maternity Home.  There I found safe and comfortable housing.  That was a true blessing. They also immediately signed me up for their Mentoring Program, which “offers ongoing assistance to girls and women who face serious challenges related to pregnancy."

The support did not end that day.  Aid for Women continued to work with me. They provided me with public transportation bus cards, a bassinet, an abundance of diapers and wipes, new baby clothes and other baby items.  They also provided a brand new car seat, so that when my baby, Savannah, was born, she could safely leave the hospital.

Aid for Women assisted me throughout my pregnancy and even well after my daughter was born.  They have been my rock.  They have remained steadfast.  When I lost my apartment, they helped me find shelter.  When I couldn't work, they supported me financially.  When I needed support, they encouraged me.

I left the state for a period of time, and when I returned, Aid for Women welcomed me with open arms.  They never discriminated or were judgmental and always wanted to make sure Savannah was happy and healthy.  Just recently, they helped me find another housing solution.  I have never been ashamed to share anything with them.  They listen with an open ear and heart, and always helped me find solutions.  For that, I thank them.
