From Rev. Joe Young, Vice President for Ministry Support

Recap of Tuesday Afternoon and Evening - July 27, 2010
(Click here for a recap of Wednesday, July 28.)

Our Babies Go to Congress team arrived in DC on Tuesday to prepare for the congressional visits today.  We met at the Canon House Office Building and were welcomed by Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA) and Congresswoman Michelle Bachman (R-MN).  They shared their stories with the group and encouraged them for the task at hand.  Our moms then got to know each other by sharing their own stories with the entire group.  This gave them another opportunity to practice the testimony that they will share today with various congressmen.  Keep praying for them!

I also met with Congressman Joe Barton's (R-TX) office; he is the ranking member of the Energy and Commerce Committee.  This is the committee where the "Stop Deceptive Advertising in Women's Service Act" has been assigned.  The congressman's staff assured me that he would not support the bill. The wild card is the upcoming elections and what may happen during the lame-duck session.  (Another reason our work today is vital).  We discussed strategy for addressing the issue with other committee members to strengthen opposition to the legislation.

We gathered for dinner at Union Station; moms, babies, pregnancy help directors and Heartbeat staff.  We prayed, laughed, ate, and sharpened our testimonies one-on-one.  We are ready to go out today and boldly testify that “Pregnancy help centers are good for America!” Keep praying and we will update you again soon.
