Petition against "Stop Deceptive Advertising for Women's Services Act"
On June 30, 2010 the "Stop Deceptive Advertising in Women's Services Act" was introduced in the House of Representatives (H.R. 5652) by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Senate (S.R. 3554) by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ). This bill seeks to have the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) establish rules that regulate the advertising of pregnancy help centers that do not perform or refer for abortions. The bill does not address the advertising practices of pro-abortion groups. In effect, this bill would create rules limiting the advertising done by pro-life groups while allowing abortion supporters the freedom market abortion services whenever and however they choose.
Heartbeat International stands in favor of honest and ethical advertising. Our Commitment of Care and Competence establishes clear guidelines that require our affiliated pregnancy help centers to practice honest advertising. It even goes so far as to require our affiliates to directly communicate that they do not offer abortion or referrals to abortion upon the first contact with a potential client. What Heartbeat is opposed to is the singling out of pro-life pregnancy help centers. If the advertising of services to pregnant women is to be regulated, then everyone should be subject to those rules. It would be unfair to silence the pro-life voice while allowing the abortion industry to continue using false and misleading advertising to increase their business.
Please join Heartbeat International in calling on Congress to reject the abortion industry’s lobbying efforts to force this law onto the American people! NARAL and other abortion activists are pressuring Congress to pass this one-sided, death promoting law. Sign the petition below and Heartbeat International will ensure that our lawmakers know that you support women, children, and true choice – informed choice.
