In this course the nurse/attendee will learn about the different types of oral contraceptives available in the United States and discuss how implantation and pregnancy could be affected when they fail to prevent ovulation and fertilization. It is aimed to provide nurses and other health care workers with relevant information on current oral contraception regimens so they can help their patients make informed decisions on health care and family planning issues.

Objectives: 

  1. Explain the different types of oral contraceptives and their mechanisms of preventing pregnancy.
  2. Explain the potential for different types of oral contraceptives to affect implantation and pregnancy if fertilization occurs.
  3. Examine the paradox of how pregnancy can occur despite the use of oral contraceptives.
  4. Describe an overview of oral contraceptives to equip nurses and other health care professionals with a better understanding of how they work so they can provide informed, up-to-date information for their patients.

This course offers continuing education contact hours for nurses. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provder Number CEP 16061 for 1.25 contact hours.

 

Amanda Hayes is a registered pharmacist and serves on teh board of directors for Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International. Through CPFI, she has helped to develop an awareness campaign that trains students in schools of pharmacy to educate health care workers and the public on medical abortifacient agents. Amanda is a newlywed and lives in Southern California where she works as a staff pharmacist for a retail pharmacy.

When a registrant is unable to access a webinar/course due to an unplanned or unannounced server outage of Heartbeat International Academy, the HeartbeatInternational.org website, or HeartbeatServices.org website, Heartbeat International will contact the registrant to notify them of the refund due them and issue the refund. Refund will be made to the registrant within 1 week of the cancelled event subject to processing fees.

 2. When a course/webinar is cancelled for which individuals have registered, Heartbeat International will send a notification to each registrant per email or phone. Full refund will be sent to registrant within one week of cancellation.
